AUSTRALIA’s women celebrated a remarkable year by clinching the HSBC SVNS World Championship Series title and the overall world crown in Bordeaux.

Their thrilling final victory over New Zealand capped a dominant season for the Wallabies.

The Fiji Airways Fijiana team finished seventh, securing their place in the top tier for next season, demonstrating resilience and skill throughout the competition.

In the men’s division, host nation France delighted fans with a 26-19 win over New Zealand, while South Africa, despite finishing fourth, claimed the overall world title following a strong campaign.

The Fiji Airways Fiji men’s sevens team fought valiantly but were knocked out in the quarter-finals by South Africa 17-14, a reversal of their earlier 14-12 pool win.

Fiji ended the championship in sixth place, maintaining their elite status.

Closer to home, Fijian-born Tomasi Cama has resigned as head coach of the All Blacks Sevens, citing the right time to step down after leading the team since 2023.

While Fiji’s sevens legacy remains strong, their sixth and seventh-place finishes have raised serious questions about the recent decline in national team performances.
