Japan will not welcome any athlete who is a positive COVID-19 case.

These were the words of Team Fiji chef de mission Patrick Bower who stated that any athlete who tests positive for the virus will not travel to Tokyo for the Olympic Games.

He added that Japan will be releasing an app soon which every athlete will need to download and adhere to its instructions.

“Installed on a smartphone the app must be ready to be shown at the Nareta airport as requested and is required for use for the duration of stay. Locally, information about starting a safe-bubble diary at home now has already been shared. This is good practice and a lead into the app use,” he said.

Team Fiji will be responsible for regular checks.

“During this period it is the responsibility of individuals to report of any symptoms should they become evident,” he added.

Team Fiji departs for Japan on July 8.
