The wet and windy weather yesterday did not stop the first Athletics Fiji trials for the Pacific Games, with 137 athletes turning up at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva.
However, Fiji Athletics head coach Albert Miller said the turnout was low.
He was optimistic the numbers would pick up during the second trials in August.
“Right now a lot of things are happening, a lot of different sports. Some of the athletes are also playing other sports but the show must go on,” the former Olympian said.
“Really glad for the athletes who are here and despite the weather, people are still competing and competing very well.
“We are hoping the second trials in August there will be a bigger turnout.
“There will be three trials and just trying to emphasise the fact that the athletes need to attend two trials to be eligible to be in the Fiji team. That is part of our selection criteria.”
