Police have recovered another package containing a white substance believed to be illicit drugs after it was found washed ashore on Namena Island.
The Fiji Police Force said officers from Savusavu Police Station were deployed on Tuesday, 7 July, after receiving a report from members of the public about a clear plastic package discovered on the shoreline.
Crime Scene Investigation officers retrieved the package, with the Criminal Investigations Department now leading investigations into the discovery.
Police said the latest recovery brings the total number of parcels recovered around Fiji to 76, with all previously recovered parcels testing positive for cocaine.
The parcels have been found in the Lau Group, Qamea, Kadavu and Beqa, as authorities continue efforts to trace the source and intended destination of the illicit drugs.
The Fiji Police Force said it is working closely with the Australian Federal Police as investigations continue.
Police also thanked members of the public, as well as traditional and community leaders, for promptly reporting suspicious packages, allowing officers to recover them quickly.
The public is being urged to call 1681 if they discover any similar parcels and to avoid handling the packages.
