With an hour away from the scheduled 11am court sentencing in which former prime minister Voreqe Bainimarama and suspended police commissioner Sitiveni Qiliho will know their fate, the nation waits with bated breath.

Supporters have started to arrive at the Magistrate Court in Suva, Mr Bainimarama and Mr Qiliho have not arrived and the court room in which the sentencing would be heard is already packed.

Police presence is obvious as they stand around the court house compound with other supporters who have not been able to get inside the court room.

The two will appear before Magistrate Seini Puamau who in October last year acquitted the charges of one count of one count of attempt to pervert the course of justice for Mr Bainimarama and one count of abuse of office for Mr Qiliho.

The DPP’s office appealed this decision with the High Court in which Acting Chief Justice Salesi Temo, two weeks ago overturned the not guilty verdict of Ms Puamau and instead found the two guilty of their respective charges.

Acting Chief Justice Temo then ordered the case be returned to Ms Puamau’s court in which she will make the decision today.
