The accountability of massive funds allocated for operational works by the Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) is unclear given the absence of up-to-date annual reports for the past few years.
Opposition MP Aseri Radrodro said this in his contribution to the 2020-2021 budget debate in parliament yesterday noting the $12million increase in allocation from $183m last year to $195m for this budgetary term.
He said the allocation was targeted at extending rural water supply programs.
“Similar to FRA (Fiji Roads Authority), the accountability of this massive fund is unclear as there have been no up-to-date reports submitted. The last report tabled in parliament dates back to 2013 and 2014,” Mr Radrodro said.
“This kind of poor corporate governance displayed by a lack of transparent display of utilisation of funding is a matter of concern, given that significant areas of our communities in rural settings continue to await properly treated piped water connections.”
