A 66-YEAR-old granduncle convicted of two counts of rape and one count of sexual assault will be sentenced tomorrow.
The man had raped his eight-year-old grandniece on February 11, 2017, in Navua.
During the one week trial, the victim, her mother and a doctor had testified in court, which High Court judge Justice Vincent Perera found credible.
Meanwhile, the defence lawyer had asked the court to give the man a sentence on the lower end of the tarriff, which is 10 years imprisonment with a non-parole period of six years, because he was the only person looking after his sickly wife.
He has been remanded in custody.
