Fiji’s 13-member delegation from the Civic Taekwondo Academy, endorsed by the Fiji Taekwondo Association (FTA), recently returned from the TUNZ Tae kwon do tournament in Wellington, New Zealand with a remarkable medal haul.

The team brought home seven gold, 16 silver, and one bronze medal, showcasing the results of two months of rigorous preparation and the increasing standard of tae kwon do in Fiji.

National coach Neelu Nand praised the squad for their talent and resilience, stating that the athletes proved Fiji’s capability to shine on the international stage.

He added these medals are seen as important milestones on the road toward the LA 2028 and Brisbane 2032 Olympics.

Olympian Venice Traill, who led the team, commended the younger athletes for their courage and performance in their first international competition with electronic scoring.

“This campaign shows what is possible when athletes, coaches, and supporters work together with one vision,” said Traill.

“Our medal tally is a proud moment, but more importantly, it signals Fiji’s growing visibility in global taekwondo.

“We thank our sponsors and once again encourage all clubs and athletes who aspire to wear the Fiji colours to affiliate with the Association.”

The Wellington tournament not only brought medals but also provided invaluable international experience, further solidifying Fiji’s place on the tae kwon do map.
