The Water Authority of Fiji is considering taking action against a contractor that damaged the main water pipeline from Tamavua Water Treatment Plant to Suva early Thursday and disrupted supply to thousands, including 27 schools and the CWM Hospital.

According to WAF, the contractor working for another organisation was conducting horizontal directional drilling and ended up damaging the trunk 600 main.

WAF chief operations officer Seru Soderberg said their team was doing an investigation to estimate the cost of damage.

He said the contractors were shown the schematics of where all the lines were.

“On the night of the event, the duty supervisor was on site and had indicated to them the alignment of the pipeline,” he said.
