A significant achievement of $4000 was raised to support the Vuna U21 rugby team from Taveuni, allowing them to participate in the 48th Fiji Bitter Marist 7s tournament in Viti Levu.
This opportunity not only allowed the team to showcase their talents on a larger platform but also served to steer youths away from the grasp of drug use.
Team manager, Aparama Nasiwa, expressed his gratitude towards the community and supporters for their contributions towards the team’s expenses.
The journey from Taveuni to Viti Levu proved to be a safe one, with the team opening their campaign with a 7-0 victory against the Nuku rugby team.
“The boys have been looking forward to come and participate in this big tournament, they used to just hear about it, they are really glad to come and participate in it,” Nasiwa said.
“The team’s performance in the tournament is not only for playing, but also to help the youths get out of drugs and do something good out of their lives.
“We like to thank the village heads, that helped us fundraise for this tournament, we wouldn’t make it without them, and to our supporters back in the island. As the tournament progresses, the team remains hopeful and determined to give their best performance in upcoming matches.”
