The Tubarua Highlanders under-21 team, champions of the Fiji Bitter Nahehevia tournament, showed great strength in their first pool match against Marist at the 48th Fiji Bitter Marist 7s yesterday.
They emerged victorious with a score of 17-5 at the HFC Bank Stadium on day one of the tournament.
The team had a solid performance in the first half, scoring two tries and taking a 10-point lead over Marist.
Although they missed both conversion attempts, they continued their dominance in the second half with another try, successfully converting the kick.
Marist managed to score a try of their own but missed the conversion, resulting in a final score of 17-5 in favour of Tubarua Highlanders U21.
Team manager Ratu Avakoki Nasauturaga expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance, especially as they were able to defeat host Marist in their opening match.
“It is a good start for the boys, especially winning from the tournament hosts Marist,” Nasauturaga said.
“It is just the start of the journey, got other tough teams to compete with, there are few areas that need improvement, and it is important to address the issues before facing other tougher opponents.”
He remained optimistic about his team’s prospects, particularly as they were accustomed to playing in hot weather conditions.
The goal for the team is to give their best effort and strive for success in the final leg of the Fiji Bitter series, aiming to finish the tournament on a high note.
