Parents and guardians of Vuya District School were honoured to be tasked with badging their children who had been selected as school prefects for this academic year.
The school in Nabouwalu, Bua in Vanua Levu had their prefect induction ceremony this month with 183 students inducted.
Head of school, Epeli Rokotuibete said the parents and guardians along with the chief guest did the honours of badging the students – making it a special moment for the student leaders.
Chief guest at the investiture ceremony was the education advisor in Bua, Josua Natarova.
Sailosi Turaga was selected as the school’s head boy while Glory Williams was selected as the head girl.
Mr Rokotuibete said the newly elected prefects were urged to be good role models to their peers.
“They must always have respect and to adhere to the rules of the school. They have to be responsible leaders who represent the school well,” he said.
Also, at the start of the year the school commissioned its upgraded walkway.
The $12,000 project was fully funded by the Parents and Teachers Association (PTA) with the help of the Old Scholars Association.
The project will allow the students to walk safely to school. Mr Rokotuibete said it was a special project as it brought parents, teachers, and old scholars together to prioritise the students’ wellbeing.
Chief guest at the commissioning of the walkway was the Tui Vuya, Ratu Amenatave Rabona.
The school provides education to children from three villages – Nabouwalu, Navave and Vuya and four settlements – Raviravi, Raralevu, Namulomulo and Vunirara in Bua.
