Education Ministry condemns bullying act

Listen to this article:

Fiji’s Ministry of Education has condemned any act of bullying and physical assault on any child.

It says the safety and well-being of students should always be paramount in and out of school, and that it will not tolerate any form of physical abuse of violence.

The ministry had issued a statement in response to a video that went viral on social media Facebook showing a student in school uniform punching another student from the same school.

The ministry reminded all students, parents, and guardians of the strong stance against physical assault and bullying.

“Such actions not only violate the rights of others but also disrupt the core principles of a safe and welcoming learning environment,” the ministry stated.

“Following the ministry’s Behavior Management Policy, students are encouraged to understand and follow the guidelines provided. This policy focuses on handling student misbehavior and maintaining discipline in schools.”

“We will continue to take proactive measures to address incidents of bullying and violence, ensuring that every student is safe and their well-being is prioritised.”

The 15-year-old student involved has been charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and appeared in the Nadi Magistrates Court yesterday.
