Issues with a cane access road has resulted in 500 tonnes of cane not being harvested for the past two years.

Saiyad Ali said the cane access road leading to his Malamala, Nadi, farm had deteriorated to the extent that no trucks could traverse it.

“On average each year, I was able to harvest close to 500 tonnes of cane but when the road eroded, cane lorries could not transport cane from my farm,” he said.

Mr Ali said Fiji Sugar Corporation (FSC) representatives had visited his farm and seen the issue but nothing had been done about it.

“I hope FSC addresses this as soon as possible because there is no use for me to prepare for this year’s crushing season if my cane can’t go through.”

He said he did not have the money to fix the road on his own.
