Court convicts woman for biting

A Sigatoka woman convicted of biting a 24-year-old woman last year was handed a two-month suspended sentence by the High Court in Lautoka.

According to the court, the victim was searching for her partner who had a child with the 28-year-old accused.

She confronted the victim when she found him at the home of the accused.

The court heard that a heated confrontation erupted between the two parties resulting in the accused biting the 24-year-old’s arm.

A hospital examination proved that there were human bite marks on the complainant.

The accused pleaded guilty to one count of act intended to cause grievous harm and one count of assault causing actual bodily harm.

Justice Sunil Sharma said the accused pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity which he accepted was a show of genuine remorse.

He said she also co-operated with police, there was minor injuries caused and that the accused had taken responsibility for her actions.
