VIVE Winston Marama is still very young and innocent to recall the tragic night of February 20, 2016, when Tropical Cyclone Winston struck their village of Qelekuro in the district of Dawasamu, Tailevu, that claimed her mother’s life.

But the four-year-old will ask her family from time to time of her mother’s whereabouts and that if one day she will get to see her.

Vive is the youngest of nine siblings and she was just a year old when her mother Sera Tinai died at the height of the category five cyclone.

Her aunt Timaima Marama, 34, said her sister in law’s death was a great loss to their family and three years on, they still vividly remember the tragic events of that night.

“Vive my niece was still breastfeeding from her mother who was in her 30s when she died. It’s really hard to explain to her what happened on that day because she is still young to understand,” Ms Marama said.

“When she is mature enough, she will come to know.”

She said the children were all doing well in school but whenever there was strong wind, they get scared and start crying because of what they experienced during TC Winston three years ago,” she said.
