Plane sinks after ending up in lagoon off Weno airport in FSM

AN Air Niugini plane has sunk after ending up in a lagoon off Weno airport in Chuuk in the Federated States of Micronesia.

Boats are surrounding the partly submerged plane to rescue passengers and crew but other details are not yet available.

It is not known whether the aircraft was trying to land or take off.

The Boeing 737-800 was scheduled to stop in Chuuk on its way from Pohnpei to Port Moresby.

Air Niugini management staff are currently in a crisis meeting.
