ABOUT $3.25million has already been spent on the Nabouwalu township development project in Bua, says Minister for Local Government Maciu Nalumisa.

Mr Nalumisa said the money had covered land acquisition, survey works, engineering design and civil works.

He said the total estimated cost of the project was around $8.72m.

“The proposed township development involves the subdivision of about 5.4hectares of land and will feature 23 commercial lots, four civic lots, six industrial lots and land reserved for Government offices.”

He said the project aimed to promote balanced development and create opportunities.

“It supports decentralisation, reduces pressure on existing urban centres, and creates opportunities for well-planned, resilient communities.”

He said the development would help address service gaps in Bua and support economic activity in the area.

“This project is not only about infrastructure, but also about creating opportunities, supporting local communities, and ensuring that development benefits are shared fairly and sustainably.”

He said the development was expected to stimulate economic activity in Bua and improve services for residents and travellers using the Nabouwalu route.
