Fiji’s outsourcing industry is targeting $500 million in foreign exchange earnings and 15,000 jobs by 2030 under a new five-year strategic plan aimed at positioning the country as a regional hub for business and professional services.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Industries, Commerce and Business Development Manoa Kamikamica told parliament the industry had grown significantly, employing approximately 9500 people as of April this year, compared with an estimated 4000-5000 workers when the sector was first established.
Responding to a parliamentary question on the sector’s strategic plan, he said the targets in the Outsource Fiji 2026-2030 plan represented a close to 58 per cent growth in the workforce, adding 5500 employment opportunities.
“The outsource industry is becoming an increasingly important contributor to the economy of Fiji,” Mr Kamikamica said.
“It represents an opportunity for Fiji to diversify its economy, expand the service export industry and attract international business, most importantly creating meaningful employment for our young people.”
According to Outsource Fiji’s recent April 2026 Industry Update, young people account for 80 per cent of the workforce, while women make up 70 per cent.
He said that demonstrated the important role the sector played in promoting women’s economic participation, financial independence, and professional development.
He noted the industry has evolved to encompass financial services, accounting, information technology services, administrative support, engineering support, and digital solutions delivered to international clients from Fiji.
Mr Kamikamica said Fiji’s reputation as a growing BPO destination was continuing to take leaps and bounds.
He said the CX Technology Global Services Survey done by Ryan Strategic Advisory, released in May this year ranked Fiji among the world’s top five favoured offshore customer experience destinations based on the views of 815 enterprise decision makers across 12 markets.
He noted that respondents in New Zealand and Singapore ranked Fiji as their most favoured destination.
Mr Kamikamica said the Outsource Fiji 2026-2030 strategic plan was built around pillars including talent development and infrastructure.
To support skills, he said Google recently provided 1000 scholarships for ICT training. Furthermore, CISCO has established a technology hub in USP focusing on Artificial Intelligence and cybersecurity.
In terms of infrastructure, Mr Kamikamica highlighted that Google qas building four cables into the country from the West Coast of America, South America, Australia, and Southeast Asia. “The development of the second strategic plan makes absolute sense, because it clearly underpins the major potential for this industry.”
