Toyota Motor Corporation Japan (Toyota) has — through its exclusive distributor Asco Motors — identified 47 Landcruiser 300 models in Fiji that will require Transmission ECU (electronic control unit) Reprogramming or special service campaign.
Toyota had stated it had identified certain Landcruiser 300 models that required special service campaign, attributed to an issue in the design of the brake clutch disc inside the 10-speed transmission, “which may not immediately disengage when the vehicle is shifted to the neutral position”.
“If this condition occurs when the vehicle is on a flat surface, and if the driver does not apply the service brake or the parking brake, it could allow a vehicle to inadvertently creep forward at a low speed — up to approximately 6km/h — which could increase the risk of a crash,” Asco Motors said in its market statement issued by SPX, and signed by chairman Akira Shida and CEO Ronald Kumar.
It advised the Landcruiser 300 models impacted were those manufactured by Toyota between December 11, 2020, and January 15, 2024.
“As the exclusive Toyota distributor in Fiji, Asco Motors is working closely with Toyota and will commence this special service campaign immediately for the affected Landcruiser 300 models in Fiji,” it stated.
The company is in contact with its Toyota Landcruiser 300 owners and customers in Fiji to book the special service campaign appointment to be conducted by Asco Motors free of charge.
The special service campaign involves reprogramming the Transmission ECU Software and may take up to an hour.
Owners and customers of the Landcruiser 300 model are also requested to book the special service campaign through their nearest Asco Motors dealership.
