GOVERNMENT has committed $27,000 to strengthen Pacific journalism and support a more resilient and innovative regional media sector.

The funding commitment was formalised yesterday through an agreement between the Ministry of Information and the Fijian Media Association (FMA) ahead of the 8th Pacific Media Summit.

Minister for Information, Environment and Climate Change Lynda Tabuya said the funding was an investment in the future of Pacific media and the importance of credible and reliable information in an increasingly digital environment.

FMA president Rosi Doviverata thanked Government for its support, saying the summit would provide journalists with opportunities to strengthen their skills in innovative storytelling and digital reporting.

The 8th Pacific Media Summit will be held in Savusavu from September 21 to 25 under the theme, “Reaching the remote: Media and digitalinnovation for a connected Blue Pacific.”
