2700 security personnel for 2015 Pacific Games

THE Papua New Guinea Government will provide 2700 security personnel for the Pacific Games which starts 14 days from now.

According to a statement from the Pacific Games Organising Committee, the Royal PNG Constabulary would carry out Operation ‘Safe Games’ to provide a safe and secure environment for the delivery of the Games.

Games security would be made up of officers from the RPNGC, PNG Defence Force and PNG Correctional Service.

In a media conference yesterday in Port Moresby, the three discipline forces heads confirmed that out of the 2700 officers, 300 will come from PNGDF, 300 from PNGCS and the rest from the police force.

Security personnel and a venue commander would be stationed at each of the Games venues and located stations within the city to ensure a high level of public safety and security within the city.

The defence forces assured the public and visiting countries that security will be maintained at the highest level.

PBG’s Department of Transport would engage 300 officers to assist in managing traffic to ensure designated routes to and from venues are unhindered when required.

The PNG Fire Service has been engaged to provide a fire officer at each venue to ensure that emergency management plans mitigate all safety risks.

PNG National Capital District Commission would co-ordinate volunteers as marshals to ensure safety and security at designated car parks and bus stops around the city.

PNG’s acting chief secretary John Kali said Prime Minister Peter O’Neill had expressed satisfaction on the level of co-operation between the three disciplinary forces.
