More than 2400 Fijian youths have been assisted through the Farm Initiative Program over the past financial year, says Youth and Sports Minister Parveen Kumar.
He said the 4243 youths from 147 clubs were given farming equipment to assist them in commercial and subsistence farming.
“The ministry has considered the applications made from respective youth clubs across the four divisions and today 29 youth clubs have been confirmed to be assisted through our youth farm program,” he said.
“We have assisted a total of 147 youth clubs consisting of 4243 beneficiaries altogether in the last financial year.
“I am pleased to add to this the current assistance numbers and to date we have provided assistance to 30 youth clubs and 768 members.
“This assistance is uniformly spread across our Central, North, Eastern and Western zones.
“This assistance supports the theme of this year’s International Youth Day by encouraging youths through food production and promotion of food security.”
To mark the important milestone and the International Youth Day celebrations, Mr Kumar also launched a social media poetry competition on online platform TikTok where $1000 worth of farming items were up for grabs for the winning participant.
