Fourteen-year-old Miriama Rokua of Mahatma Gandhi Memorial High School (MGM) emerged in second place in the 2024 Coca-Cola Games in the sub junior girls’ long jump event.
Despite narrowly missing the gold, Miriama’s silver medal victory was attributed to her determination, faith, and unwavering spirit.
“I am happy I achieved something,” Miriama said.
“I was aiming for gold, but I settled for silver.”
Undeterred by the outcome, Miriama remained steadfast in her faith, attributing her success to a higher power.
“Regardless, I am thankful to the Lord for bringing me this far,” she said.
“The Lord was there with me from the beginning, and I give all the praise back to him.”
For Miriama, the Coca-Cola Games marked a significant milestone in her athletic journey, as she proudly reflected on her debut appearance.
“This is my first year in the Cokes, so I’m happy.
“And there’s always next year to get gold.”
“I dedicate this silver medal to my family at home and school.
“I don’t know anyone from my family who has taken part in the Coca-Cola Games, so I’m so happy to be the first.”
As a young athlete with wisdom beyond her years, Miriama offered sage advice to her fellow competitors and athletes her age.
“My advice to the athletes is to work hard and always remember the Lord.
“Pray to God in your hard times and be thankful to God in your good times.”
Looking ahead, Miriama plans to bring her best next year and claim the gold for MGM.
