The three things that the Social Democratic Liberal Party says is non-negotiable in terms of who they will form government within the next few days are: iTaukei issues outlined in their manifesto; their education policy; and the establishment of an embassy in Jerusalem.
“We are pretty much an iTaukei party, our base is the indigenous people of this country and their issues have always been paramount with us and that is very much part of those issues that we will not negotiate on,” party leader Viliame Gavoka said at a press conference yesterday.
“Negotiables vary – ministerial positions, some of our policies on foreign affairs, and education and the like. “Fiji is predominantly a Christian country and it has always been a wish of the Christian community to have a presence in the Holy Land.”
When quizzed by overseas media on whether SODELPA would pursue establishing Fiji as a Christian state, he replied in the negative. “No Christian State.
“Christian principles will be mainstay of our policies, we have secular state today in Fiji but it gives you room to be who you are but we are very much a Christian people.”
SODELPA is in the enviable position of being “kingmaker” with its three seats, after the FijiFirst and The People’s Alliance-National Federation Party were tied at 26 seats each after counting for the 2022 General Election concluded yesterday.
