A total of 18,836 registered voters in 152 pre-polling venues across Fiji will be casting their ballots today on the first day of pre-poll for the 2022 General Election
. Supervisor Of Elections Mohammed Saneem confirmed this in a media conference yesterday.
Mr Saneem said for the first day of pre-polling, the Central Division has a total of 24 venues, Eastern has 52 venues, Western Division has 42 venues and the Northern Division has 32 venues operational.
He said in total there would be 77,907 registered voters who would be voting during the pre-polling period in 613 pre-polling venues that included venues for police officers, military as well as various remote areas in Fiji.
He said FEO teams had been deployed to all pre-polling voting venues and has advised registered voters to be aware of their venues.
“This time around in this election for every pre-poll venue, we’ve made a pre-poll road sign,” Mr Saneem said.
“On our Facebook page we have put up pictures of the road signs erected at the pre-poll venues and on the sign there is a small column where we have actually put the date and the time for people voting in those areas.”
He said FEO had made arrangements with managements and administrators of schools to ensure there were no disruption of classes.
“As we know exams will be on this week so it’s very critical that students are not disturbed and for that reason we are using our own tents in the school ground to conduct pre poll so that should facilitate voting in all those areas.”
Mr Saneem said information on the venues and numbers of pre polling voters could be accessed on the Fijian Elections Office website.
“This dashboard will continue to get updated and it will be live 24/7 and you can access that information from the website – the link will be posted on the FEO Facebook page.
“This is the culmination of the eight years of hard work that my team has put in going to individual locations, getting GPS coordinates, then building all this information directly on a screen and to the extent that you can do so at home.”
