About 16 members of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) have been working around the clock over the past few days in making sure members of Team Fiji at the Pacific Games in the Solomon Islands feel at home.
Lieutenant Colonel Asaeli Toaniakeve of the RFMF in the Solomon Islands said he and his men had been tasked in taking care of Team Fiji in terms of security.
“We have been tasked in taking care of Team Fiji here at their camp, making sure they get to and from their different venues safely,” he said.
Personnel have been based at Team Fiji’s camp and at the Honiara International Airport, conducting escort services for athletes.
“Escorting members of Team Fiji is one of the many things we are doing here,” Toaniakeve said.
“We also transport things like their water and other equipment to and from their camp.”
Team Fiji is based at the St Nicholas and Anglican College in Honiara.
“We are also working with other security personnel from other Pacific Islands countries. We are also looking after other countries who are competing in the games as well.”
He said he and his men had been honoured to be able to serve Team Fiji and other countries on such an occasion.
“We are happy and honoured to be here, serving our country and we wish them well in the different events and sports they will be competing in.”
