The Government will invest $17million in digital transformation initiatives aimed at modernising public services, improving connectivity and creating easier access to government services, Parliament was told yesterday.
Minister for Policing and Communications Ioane Naivalurua announced the allocation while contributing to the 2026-2027 National Budget debate, saying digital transformation remained a key priority for building a more connected and inclusive Fiji.
“Government continues to invest in building a Fiji that is more connected, more inclusive,q and better prepared for the opportunities of the digital economy,” Mr Naivalurua said.
“Through this budget, the Digital (Government) Transformation Office and communication portfolio have been allocated a total of $17million for the new financial year.”
He said the investment would support the modernisation of government services, strengthen national connectivity, and advance Fiji’s digital economy ambitions.
Mr Naivalurua said a whole-of-government service mapping exercise had identified 788 critical services across government, with 385 services expected to be digitised by 2030.
“The whole-of-government service mapping exercise will create a clear pathway for more services to be delivered online over the coming years.”
He said this would be supported by the rollout of a whole-of-government chatbot interface, allowing members of the public to access services more conveniently.
The minister said the unified service portal and government data exchange platform were expected to be completed this year, enabling ministries to provide faster and simpler services.
“This will be supported by the finalisation of the privacy and data protection legislation and the development of the data management framework.
“For our people, this will mean less paperwork, less waiting, and improved service delivery.”
