1,295 residents leave Fiji for employment in July

A total of 1,295 Fiji residents departed the country for employment purposes in July 2026, according to the latest resident departure figures.

The data shows employment accounted for 8.3 per cent of the 15,694 resident departures recorded during the month.

Of those leaving for employment, 287 were expected to be away for less than three months, while 489 indicated an absence of between three and 12 months.

Another 519 residents left for employment for periods ranging from one to five years, the largest group among employment-related departures.

Overall, 13,665 residents, or 87.1 per cent of all departures, indicated they would be away for less than three months.

Holiday travel remained the leading reason for residents leaving Fiji, accounting for 6,497 departures or 41.4 per cent.

Another 5,278 residents departed to visit friends or relatives, while 983 travelled for business and 800 for education or training.

The figures also show 148 residents departed for emigration, including 91 who indicated they would be away for more than five years or permanently.
