Runqi Zhou may return to Fiji to compete against new national lightweight boxing champion Mikaele Ravalaca.
This was confirmed by Bluewater Boxing Promotions promoter Samir Khan, after Ravalaca won over Mohammed Ali by technical knock-out (TKO) at the Vodafone Arena in Suva last Saturday.
Khan informed fans and spectators at the Vodafone Arena of the potential fixture, slated for Saturday, May 24.
“Since it was a much-awaited fight and one of Mikaele Ravalaca’s dreams to wear the Fiji title, he has the title over there with him and I promised we will bring Runqi Zhou for May 24,” Khan said.
Ravalaca told the attentive audience at the arena what making the fixture happen meant to him, which included being paid well for it and ensuring the safety and well-being of boxers was a paramount one.
“Give me my money, this is boxing (and) this is business. Give me my money and stay strong, better. Safety first!,” urged Ravalaca when also responding to Mohammed Ali’s suggestion of having a re-match following the latter’s defeat.
Zhou is no stranger to Fiji boxing since he contested the IBO Asia Pacific featherweight title at a South Pacific Boxing Promotion event held at Prince Charles Park, Nadi in late October last year.
He fought against the late Ubayd Haider and won by technical knock-out in the main bout as Haider sustained serious brain injuries that resulted in his passing a fortnight after at the Lautoka Hospital.
Nicknamed the “Fist of Fury” with a reach of 162cm and fighting out of Australia, Zhou holds an illustrious record of nine wins, two losses and a draw.
In the meantime, the boxing fraternity in Fiji will have Ravalaca’s new achievement to deliberate over as more events may be announced in due course.
