LautokaPrimary School swimming team is determined to improve it’s performance at the 2026 Fiji National Schools Swimming Championships, bringing 15 athletes to the competition compared to just three last year.
The competition begins today at the Damodar City Aquatic Centre in Laucala Bay, Suva.
Last year, their three athletes returned to the Sugar City with two silver and two bronze medals.
This year, with the support of the athletes’ families and a few corporate sponsors, the team is confident of winning more medals.
Team manager Premila Mani said exposure is the main objective of the competition, with many of their swimmers making their national tournament debut.
“The primary goal is exposure – to compete at a national level. Secondly, whatever they couldn’t achieve last year, they aim to accomplish this year,” she said.
“We have some swimmers who competed last year and won silver and bronze. This year, we hope they can go a step further and win gold or silver.”
The team is led by inspirational head coach Nina Naivalu, who has worked tirelessly behind the scenes preparing the athletes to deliver another strong performance in this year’s championships.
