Nadroga Central Cluster Rugby Association hosted its annual rugby tournamet at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka yesterday.
The one day tourney brought together young talents from ten primary schools.
Participating schools included Cuvu District, Naidovi, Nadroga Sangam, Kulukuku Public School, Sigatoka District, St Joan of Arc, Nokonoko District School, Sigatoka Methodist Primary School, Sigatoka Andhra, and the Sigatoka Special School.
The tournament created a vibrant and competitive atmosphere, filled with cheers, laughter, and the true spirit of sportsmanship.
Cluster President Nemani Camaicolo highlighted the structure of the tournament, which included both contact and tag rugby.
“We have the Under-13 and 14 girls and boys playing contact rugby, while the Under-9 to 12 boys and girls are playing tag rugby,” he said.
The competition is part of a larger initiative within the Nadroga/Navosa Primary Schools Sports Association, which is divided into six clusters.
Each cluster hosts its own tournament to select the best players who will then represent their group in the Nadroga Primary Rugby Association meet.
“From there, we will select our provincial team that will go on to compete at the national level,” Camaicolo explained.
With close to 700 students and teachers participating, the event was more than just a sports tournament it was a celebration of youth development and teamwork.
As the children showcased their skills and passion on the field, teachers and parents filled the sidelines with pride and encouragement, proving once again that grassroots rugby is alive and thriving in Fiji.
