MICHELLA’E Stolz is living her dream.
At just 18 years old, the utility backline player from Naselesele in Taveuni is preparing to represent Fiji in the upcoming 2025 Oceania Rugby Women’s Championship, which kicks off next Friday at Lawaqa Park.
The Vodafone Fijiana XV will face Tonga in their opening match on Saturday, and for Stolz, it’s more than just a game it’s a dream come true.
“I’ve been playing rugby since I was 11. I started off playing with boys in the under-13s, and I just fell in love with the sport,” she said.
Her journey has been one of passion and persistence. Stolz moved to New Zealand and represented the NZ Fijians at the Global Youth Sevens, where she was scouted. That opened the door for trials and eventually led her to the Fijiana squad.
“I’ve always looked up to the Fijiana girls. It was my goal to represent Fiji and my family. To be here now, I’m still processing it,” she added.
As one of the new faces in the team, Stolz is grateful for the warm welcome from the senior players.
“They’ve really looked after us. They know they must be good role models, and they have been. I felt welcomed from day one.”
Her daily routine shows a mix of discipline and faith.
“I pack my bag the night before, wake up early, have breakfast, and do my Bible study. I like to arrive early to training to talk to God and prepare myself.”
While she’s still settling in, Stolz believes the team’s biggest focus now should be building unity.
“We just need more connection. This camp will really help us bond as a team.”
As the Fijiana XV get ready to take on Tonga, Stolz is proof that dreams do come true with hard work, faith, and heart.
