Young picks up a bronze

Team Fiji swimmer David Young picked up a bronze medal in the men’s 50m butterfly during the Commonwealth Youth Games in Trinidad yesterday.

The US-based swimmer, who was Team Fiji’s flag bearer at the opening ceremony, finished in a time of 24.47 seconds.

Dean Fearn of Scotland finished first ahead of Nick Finch of England.

Team Fiji’s other swimmer on the day was Anahira McCutcheon who participated in the women’s 50m butterfly and completed with a time of 29.17s.

The Fiji’s 7s sides picked up wins in the pool stages.

The women’s side defeated Kenya 38-5 and hosts Trinidad and Tobago 54-0 while the men defeated Trinidad and Tobago 51-0 and Canada 40-5.

Triathlete Katie Madison Pattie finished 10th overall in a field of 21 athletes.

Pattie completed her races with an overall time of 36 minutes 11 seconds.

Cyclists Don Younger and Aiden Caine finished 25 and 28, respectively, in their first event – the men’s individual time trial at The Brian Lara Cricket Stadium.

Younger managed a time of 23 minutes 37.15s while teammate Caine managed a time of 28 minutes 02.38s.
