THE Nasinu Secondary School’s Under-15 rugby league side is quietly building belief ahead of a daunting semi-final showdown against Ratu Kadavulevu School at Churchill Park in Lautoka on Saturday.
Head coach Dan Vakamoce says preparations have remained steady and structured from the opening week of their campaign.
“Preparation is going normal as what we started off with,” Vakamoce said.
“Coming into this stage, we’re hoping for the best.”
Their quarter-final review highlighted clear areas for improvement, particularly in defensive discipline.
“We analysed our game and there’s a lot of improvement needed in our defence, so we have worked on it,” Vakamoce explained.
Weather conditions have also shaped their preparations with fluctuating conditions affecting training grounds and adaptability has become part of the team’s weekly routine.
“The weather and ground conditions have been a challenge for us,” he admitted.
“As for the West, we’ll have to wait and see what Saturday brings.”
Despite entering the semi-finals ranked third from their Southern Eastern zone, compared to RKS ranked first, Vakamoce believes the gap can be closed through discipline and execution.
“Only the team that plays a good game and executes the right skills will win,” he shared.
Vakamoce says, the players have responded with strong commitment since their quarter-final match.
“The boys have been really committed, and we know that we need a huge improvement to reach this far.”
Team captain Taniela Naiyabo is calling on supporters to rally behind the team as they chase a place in the final.
“To all our fans, ex-scholars and rugby league lovers, come down and support our team as we take on RKS on Saturday.”
