Clermont backrower and Nadroga man Peceli Yato is still in the frame for selections into the FIJI Water Flying Fijians side to the rugby World Cup in France later this year.

Three weeks after training with the Flying Fijians, the 30-year-old walked out of camp following an incident that occurred within the squad.

Flying Fijians head coach Simon Raiwalui confirmed that the Yato was still up for selection into the final team during a Zoom session yesterday, even though he will not be joining the team for the rest of their test matches and warmup games.

“We have made a decision regarding Yato.

“He will not be joining the team for the remainder of the test matches, but he is still up for selection into our final squad heading into the World Cup,” he said.

The Flying Fijians have completed their first two tests against Tonga and Samoa, winning on both occasions and are left to play Japan to conclude the Pacific Nations Cup test.

Raiwalui said his players have been performing well over the past few weeks on and off the field and is keen on naming his final side for the World Cup.

“Everyone has been performing well so far, so the naming of the final squad will be an exciting one.

“Yes, we’ve been all our options for all the positions and the squad will be named quite shortly.”

Meanwhile, Raiwalui says they are expecting a tough battle when they face Japan tomorrow in the last test match of the PNC.
