DEFENDING champions Yat Sen Secondary School ended their campaign in the Suva zone 2 netball competition with a hard-fought 14-12 victory over Suva Grammar School at the netball centre in Suva. Team captain Jeremy Mar believes there is still room for improvement after a tight encounter yesterday.
The narrow win gave Yat Sen a boost as they look to retain the central rally title they won last year.
Mar said the team had prepared well despite facing a few challenges leading into the tournament.
“I think it’s been really well. There were a few hiccups here and there, but it showed because we won today,” he said.
Despite the victory, Mar rated the team’s performance seven out of 10, saying improvements were needed ahead of the central school’s rally.
“Maybe our footwork and our obstructions need to improve. Other than that, I think we’re really good with everything.”
The team captain who is playing the position of goalkeeper said the team’s focus was to continue building on its performance and take each match as it comes.
“Our goal is to do what we did today, come out first, finish victorious and play one game at a time.”
Having lifted the championship trophy last year, Yat Sen enters this year’s competition with high expectations.
Mar said the team was determined to defend its crown but remained focused on the immediate task ahead.
“We won the rallies last year, so we’re hoping to win again this year,” he said.
Yat Sen will now turn its attention to the central rallies next week.
