THE World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) Pacific celebrated its 35th anniversary.
Held at the Fiji Museum in Suva, the milestone event brought together environmentalists, former WWF staff, government officials and regional partners to reflect on the organisation’s contributions since the launch of its South Pacific Program in 1990.
WWF International Director General Kirsten Schuijt, who attended the celebration, acknowledged the organisation’s deep roots in the region.
“Since the launch of the South Pacific Program in 1990 and the opening of offices in Papua New Guinea, Fiji and the Solomon Islands, WWF Pacific has championed a vision rooted in local knowledge, resilience and long-standing partnerships,” Ms Schuijt said.
“For the last 35 years, WWF Pacific has protected vital species and ecosystems and has empowered communities across land and sea. This is an achievement well worth celebrating.”
Ms Schuijt thanked WWF Pacific’s government and regional partners for their collaboration, noting that their leadership had been crucial to the organisation’s impact.
