AN emotional gathering by the roadside at Namau in Bua as Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka with his wife Sulueti Rabuka laid a wreath at the foot of the cross where the late Karalaini Koto died following an accident two years ago.

Karalaini died by the roadside on November 15, 2020, after her mum lost control of the vehicle she was driving, causing it to veer off the road.

They were heading toward Nabouwalu jetty from Lekutu.

Yesterday, her dad Sakiusa Tubuna, who is the Assistant Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister couldn’t hold his tears back as he remembered his late daughter.

The entourage visited families in Namau settlement who were involved in rescuing the late Karalaini and her family at the accident site.

They thanked the families for assisting those involved in the accident, ensuring they were taken to the hospital.

Meleti Balei, whose son carried Karalaini out of the car on the night of the accident, said the only words she uttered were: “Kere veivuke” (ask for help).

“I was at home when my son came to call me and I’ll never forget the facial expression of the family members inside the car,” he said.

“They were lost. But I thank God for giving us the courage to help.”
