Walk on Walk Strong (WOWS) Kids Fiji has received $35,000 following the conclusion of the 2023 Steps for WOWS challenge.
Initiated by BSP Life and supported by Rooster and Oceania Hospitals, the challenge accumulated 200 million steps as compared with the 50 million acquired last year.
BSP Life managing director Michael Nacola thanked all staff, stakeholders, social media users and customers for their part in helping raise funds.
The Ministry of Health head of wellness Dr Devina Nand also commended the bank and other partners for initiating a challenge that aimed to get people moving.
Meanwhile, WOWS Kids Fiji director finance Anabel Ali said the funds raised would go a long way towards supporting the children under their care.
“We have 77 children that we look after in Fiji battling cancer, our youngest has been a three-month-old baby and the youngest today is an eight or nine-year-old,” she said.
She also highlighted that the average deaths from childhood cancer were 20 every year, and about 23 new cases were reported per annum.
Ms Ali also said they spent about $300,000 to look after the children, and the funds received would be put to good use.
