Lorry drivers have been urged to work with the Fiji Sugar Corporation (FSC) during the 2022 crushing season to make it a successful one.
Fiji Cane Lorry Operators Association Rarawai president Atish Kumar said this after a group of lorry operators expressed disappointed that mechanical issues at the FSC Lautoka mill resulted in long waiting periods last week.
He said drivers were aware that mill stoppages would occur at the start of the crushing season.
“They have to test out the mill and of course there will be some stoppages,” he said.
“Lautoka mill is old so it will have to test out the machines and make sure it can run after how many months of not being used.”
He said lorry operators delivering cane to the mill should be more understanding.
“Most of the operators have been delivering cane for a long time.
“They know that the mill will go through mechanical issues which will result in some stoppages.
“These things will happen. “They are aware of what the miller is doing and they will eventually deliver their cane.”
The 2022 crushing season at the Lautoka sugar mill was officially launched on June 16.
