THE Online Safety Commission needs stronger enforcement powers as its current limitations leave victims of online abuse without closure or justice, says Communications Fiji Ltd journalist Rashika Kumar.
Speaking during the 2025 Women in Media Conference at the Grand Pacific Hotel, Ms Kumar shared how women journalists in Fiji continue to face online harassment over how they look, speak, and behave.
“We’ve been criticised for how we behave, how we speak, even for our foreheads. Who does that?”
Ms Kumar said while her workplace provided strong HR support, other journalists weren’t so lucky.
“They need more teeth,” she said of the commission.
“They need more powers to prosecute. Without that, we feel there’s no real closure.”
