Wi-Fi access on buses

WIRELESS internet in all modes of public transport and at various retail outlets will become a norm in the next three years, says Foneology managing director James Trusler.

Mr Trusler has been installing wireless internet (Wi-Fi) access for several bus companies and recently installed Wi-Fi on two more Sunset Express buses.

“More people are now using smartphones and with Foneology bus Wi-Fi powered by Vodafone, they can continue to be in touch with their family and friends or workplace while on the bus from Suva to Nadi,” he said in a statement.

He said the company was more than happy to assist bus companies.

“Even a tourist who does not have roaming on his or her smartphone can contact families and friends abroad through internet connection.

“He or she can share her road trip experience through Facebook, that is in a way free advertising of our country and tourism industry.”

Mr Trusler said this was normal in countries such as America and it was gradually happening in Fiji where buses offered wireless internet. Sunset Buses director Inoke Silimaibau said they had received nothing but positive feedback since Foneology installed the Wi-Fi on their buses.
