The Fiji weightlifting team will prepare diligently for their next competition in December, says coach Henry Elder.

The team competed in the 2024 Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships last week and won medals in various categories.

Elder said he had already devised a plan for their next task, which would mean refining weak areas and strengthening their best ones.

“I’ve already gone back to the drawing board over this.”

“This week we’ve started to identify areas that we need to work on, individually and collectively as a team and also us as management.”

While noting their preparation, he adds that inducing a culture of reflection into the team, will be a key area they need to delve deeper into.

“It’s important to do our reflections post-competition because we see the fruits and the failings, and from there we can properly evaluate and sit down and then see what we can do to make things better.”

“I think its important to constantly self evaluate in order for us to move to the next level.”

“Reflections are a way in which I know I have improved myself and it’s all for these kids here,” he said.

While highlighting how he adored the young lifters, who made up a majority of the team, he was thankful of how far they had come.

“I’m very excited about the achievements of our young athletes, juniors and youths are the future of the sport, or any sport for that matter.”

“I’m very thankful to God for what has happened in the last week, we got amazing results from these young and talented athletes and its a team effort here.”
