Fiji can expect peak dryness from June to August this year, stated the Fiji Meteorological Service (FMS) in its climate outlook for April to September 2020.
The weather office revealed an out of season tropical cyclone could not be ruled out.
The seasonal climate outlook for Pacific Island countries model “favours generally below normal rainfall at most parts of the country during the April to June 2020 period,” the FMS stated.
“As the country is currently in the wet season (until end of April), occasional periods of significant rainfall can be expected during the passage of active troughs of low pressure, tropical depressions and tropical cyclones.
“An out of season tropical cyclone cannot be ruled out.”
The Seasonal Climate Outlook for Pacific Island Countries (SCOPIC) model predicts all divisions in Fiji will receive below normal rainfall.
