Weather watch: Heavy rain warning remains

A heavy rain warning remains in force for Yasawa and Mamanuca Group, Northern and Western parts of Viti Levu, Vanua Levu, Taveuni, and nearby smaller islands.

According to the special weather bulletin for heavy rain issued by the national weather forecasting centre in Nadi this morning, a trough of low pressure remains slow moving over the Fiji group.

An associated rain band expected to affect the country till later Saturday.

Meanwhile, a moist northerly wind flow prevails over the group.

A heavy rain alert remains in force for the rest of Viti Levu.

Occasional rain and few thunderstorms with heavy falls are expected for Yasawa and Mamanuca groups, Northern and Western parts of Viti Levu, Vanua Levu, Taveuni, and nearby smaller islands.

For the rest of Viti Levu, expect occasional rain and few thunderstorms.

Possible impacts:

  • risk of flash flooding of low-lying and flood-prone areas during persistent localised heavy falls;
  • risk of flooding of small rivers, creeks and roads;
  • poor visibility on roads in areas of heavy rain for motorists; and
  • reduced visibility at sea.
