Weather watch: Heavy rain and strong wind warning

A heavy rain warning is in force for most parts of the country while a strong wind warning remains in force for Lau and Lomaiviti group.

According to the weather bulletin issued from the National Weather Forecasting Centre in Nadi this morning a coastal inundation alert also remains in force for the coastal areas of Southern parts of Viti Levu, Southern coastal areas of Mamanuca group, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands, Moala group, Lomaiviti group, southern and central Lau group.

The bulletin says a trough of low pressure approaches the group from the west.

Associated rain and showers are expected to affect the country for the next few days.

Meanwhile, a fresh to strong moist easterly wind flow is expected to prevail over Fiji.

The forecast to midnight tomorrow for the Fiji group expect easterly winds with speeds of 35km/hr to 45 km/hr and rough seas over Lau and Lomaiviti group, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands.

Elsewhere, moderate to fresh easterly winds and moderate to rough seas.

For coastal areas of southern parts of Viti Levu, southern coastal areas of Mamanuca group, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands, Moala group, Southern and Central Lau group, expect coastal sea flooding especially during high times.

Also expect occasional rain, heavy at times and few thunderstorms over southwest Viti Levu, interior Nadroga/Navosa, greater Suva/Nausori – Tailevu, eastern Ra, Naitasiri and Serua-Namosi, Lau and Lomaiviti group, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands.

Rain becoming frequent from later tonight and occasional showers over Northern division.

Partly cloudy with afternoon or evening showers elsewhere today and occasional showers tomorrow.

Isolated thunderstorms and heavy falls likely.
