Police have started an investigation against an individual residing overseas for inciting violence and uttering hateful comments on social media, said Commissioner of Police, Rusiate Tudravu.

He said social media users are being reminded to exercise their rights to freedom of expression w​ith caution.

“I am urging social media users to exercise their freedom of speech responsibly,” he said.

“The extent to which some are engaging in cyber-bullying, harassment, and spreading hate speech​, causing division among communities is getting out of hand, and it is worrying to see social media being used in this manner.”

“I urge everyone to be mindful of their use of social media and we are working closely with the Online Safety Commission of Fiji.”
