PROPERLY designed and hygienic washrooms are essential in any healthcare facility to prevent the spread of infection, says Assistant Health Minister Penioni Ravunawa.
Officiating at the handing-over of the Nadi Hospital men’s ward washroom project last Friday, Mr Ravunawa said such facilities supported the hygiene practices of patients and staff.
“They have always alluded that it gives dignity to our patients, especially those that have chronic medical conditions and those that have difficulties with their mobility,” he said.
Mr Ravunawa said the $50,000 project was funded by the Club Wyndham Resort following their recent contribution of a vital sign monitor.
“I’m told there are a couple of washrooms, including one that is accessible for those that will be using wheelchairs.”
Club Wyndham Resort Fiji general manager William Work said this was not merely a simple project for Club Wyndham.
“It is a space that will serve as a place of health, healing, compassion, and hope for countless individuals and families in the years to come,” he said.
Mr Work said the construction of a new partition and interior walls, the installation of new plumbing, and additional sound cubicles and toilets were some of the works that were done.
“Including accessible facilities for persons with disabilities.
“Furthermore, rewiring for new lighting, repainting internal and external structural walls.”
