Joint maritime operations involving the Fiji Police Force, the Republic of Fiji Navy and the Fiji Revenue and Customs Service are continuing in the Lau Group following the discovery of more parcels containing white substances washed ashore.
Police say more than 20 parcels were initially recovered and escorted to Suva before another 35 parcels were found on Munia Island and handed over to the joint maritime taskforce operating in the Lau Group.
The latest discoveries follow earlier finds in Kadavu and Beqa, where police confirmed the recovered parcels tested positive for cocaine.
The Fiji Police Force acknowledged the public’s role in assisting authorities.
“The Fiji Police Force truly appreciates the quick sharing of information to authorities, whereby the parcels were retrieved and taken into custody.”
Police are again urging people living in coastal communities to avoid handling suspicious packages and to report any discoveries immediately.
“Those living along coastal areas are again requested not to open or handle suspicious parcels and to report any discovery to 1681.”
The Fiji Police Force thanked members of the public for their continued assistance as joint maritime operations continue in the Lau Group.
“We appreciate your support and cooperation.”
